Hot Weather Tips and Information

We’ve seen hotter temperatures than normal in Oregon over the last two weeks and there may be more to come this summer. Here are a few things to keep in mind to stay safe while you enjoy this season.

Air conditioning (AC) will be turned on in community rooms for Bienestar residents to cool down starting June 24th through July 2nd. Please wear a mask and socially distance. Enter at your own risk due to spread of COVID-19. Please note, no AC at Elm Park 1 and 2.

Hours: 9am – 5 pm (2pm- 5pm at Juniper Gardens 1 & 2)

Here are some tips for staying safe and healthy when it gets really hot outside:

  • Stay in an air-conditioned indoor location as much as you can (indoor shopping malls & movie theaters are a good place to stay cool).
  • Drink plenty of water, even if you aren’t thirsty.
  • Wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Avoid strenuous activity in the heat of the day.
  • Take cool showers or baths.
  • Close your blinds and curtains to keep sunlight out.
  • If the temperature falls at night, open your windows to let the cool air in.
  • Visit a local sprayground or fountain.
  • Use fans but do not rely on a fan as your primary cooling device when it is very hot. Instead, mist yourself with a spray bottle, and then use the fan to get the cooling benefits.
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Never leave children or pets in cars.
  • Monitor your health and seek help if you feel sick
