Even though we want to get back to doing the things we love, the pandemic is not over. In mid-April, Oregon saw a higher rate of case growth than any other state in the nation. Last week, Governor Brown moved 15 counties back to “Extreme Risk,” including our neighbors, Multnomah, Columbia and Clackamas counties. Washington County remains in “High Risk.”

The B.1.1.7 variant of the coronavirus, the strain first detected in the UK in December, is now the dominant strain in Oregon and health experts believe it is fueling this fourth surge of COVID-19. The strain is more contagious

There is good news: Studies show that the vaccines are effective against this and other new strains. Also, nationwide, cases are declining and more and more people are getting vaccinated.
