01 May Explorador Camp wins Charlotte Martin Grant

Bienestar has received a $5,000 grant for its summer Explorador Camp program. The program is held annually in August in partnership with The Audubon Society of Portland.

The Charlotte Martin Foundation is a private, independent foundation dedicated to enriching the lives of youth and also to preserving and protecting wildlife and natural habitat. The Foundation’s funding focus for 2017 is increasing opportunities for minority youth and conserving biodiversity in a changing climate.

Now in its 11th year, Explorador Camp encourages children to develop a relationship with nature to become comfortable outdoors, learn natural science, and become stewards for their community and environment. Children from our properties enjoy a week of creative organized activities and education in outdoor natural areas they otherwise might not be able to explore. The camps instill interest in and enthusiasm for ecology, the environment, flora and fauna, and natural science as areas for continued exploration and learning. Participants are encouraged to observe, report and communicate in both Spanish and English.
