04 Feb Bienestar and AAAH team up to tackle homeownership
Bienestar is proud to announce that, in partnership with the African-American Alliance For Homeownership (AAAH), we are launching a homeownership initiative to serve low- and moderate- income communities of color in Washington County. AAAH is a HUD-Approved Homeownership Counseling Agency with decades of experience providing homeownership services to African-American communities in Portland.
For many who live in Portland, where housing prices are skyrocketing, opportunities for homeownership exist in Washington County. Our partnership with AAAH will help families from Portland and Washington County alike access these opportunities. With AAAH providing HUD-Approved housing counseling services and Bienestar doing culturally-specific community outreach to local families, many of them Latino immigrants, we will bring a new service to our diverse region.
Working in partnership with AAAH, we’ve got big plans for Washington County. This includes “Homes For Sale” bus tours, a Homeownership Fair, matched IDA savings accounts, financial education classes, and homeownership counseling. Together we’ve raised almost $250,000 to support the project over the next three years.
This project will help both AAAH and Bienestar grow to new heights–as AAAH expands to serve a new region and new communities of color, and Bienestar provides a new service to local Latinos, Latino immigrants, and other communities, including both those who reside in our affordable housing properties and those who live elsewhere. Our hope is to help communities of color in Washington County build assets and generational wealth, changing systemic inequalities and creating long-term prosperity.
