19 Mar Dreamers of Oregon opens at Pacific University
On March 12, 2018, the community gathered at Pacific University’s Health Sciences campus in Hillsboro (190 SE 8th, Hillsboro OR 97213) to celebrate the opening of Dreamers of Oregon: Out of the Shadows.
In front of stunning portraits taken by Holly Andres, two Dreamers spoke about what it was like to be undocumented, how DACA, although limiting, opened some doors for them, and what it felt like when those doors started to close again.
Pacific University faculty and students warmly welcomed the exhibit. Dr. Susan Li and Dr. Ann Barr-Gillespie spoke on behalf of Pacific University’s faculty, celebrating Dreamers’ accomplishments and noting the heritage of immigration that generations of Americans share, mentioning that perhaps someday these portraits of the Dreamers might hang in the immigration museum on Ellis Island.
The exhibit will remain at Pacific University’s Hillsboro Campus until March 23. In April, it will move to Pacific University at Forest Grove. Afterwards, there are many potential locations around Washington County, including the Portland Mercado, Portland City Hall, Portland Community College, Pacific Northwest College of Art, and many others.
