19 Ago The 2021-2022 school year is almost here! 📚🍎🖥
As messaging and guidance continues to change due to pandemic conditions, Washington County school districts are still finalizing their fall plans after being notified last week that due to the Delta variant spread, some 2021-22 policies needed to be updated.
Here is what we do know about a safe return to the classroom for your kids:
Currently, schools expect to return to in-person, full-day, five-day schedules, as per the guidance of the Oregon Department of Education in June.
Masks will be required inside schools for everyone, including teachers, staff and students of all ages, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are required on school buses.
Mask policies were originally left up to individual school districts, but on July 29 Gov. Kate Brown directed the Oregon Department of Education to set the rule as a result of rising COVID-19 cases and CDC mask guidance.
For sports and afterschool activities, masks are required indoors and optional outdoors.
Stay Home – If your child becomes sick, have them stay home from school.
Is your student 12 or older? The vaccine is available. The Pfizer vaccine is the only vaccine approved for those 12 and older. It requires 2 shots, 3 weeks apart. Full vaccination status is reached 2 weeks after the second shot so in total, the vaccination process takes 5 weeks.
