Thank you to all Bienestar residents for filling out the COVID-19 vaccination survey! These are responses to questions directly from Bienestar residents received on the COVID-19 vaccination survey

- What are the side effects?
- Remember: Side effects are very NORMAL
- Most common: Sore arm, fatigue, headaches, chills, muscle pain
- Less common: Fever and shivering
- Effects are more common after 2nd dose and last 1 or 2 days
- Can I have more information about the allergic reactions to the vaccine?
- Rate of reported allergic reaction – anaphylaxis – is rare, 11.1 cases for every million doses
- Sites will have epinephrine and you’ll be monitored for 15-30 minutes afterwards
- Do not get the vaccine if you are allergic to Polysorbate or polyethylene glycol (PEG)
- Is the vaccine safe?
- Yes, it is approved by the FDA.
- CDC states: “Potential benefits of this vaccine outweigh the known and potential harms of becoming infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19).”
- Can children get the vaccine?
- No. Clinical trials on children under 16 have not been completed yet. Typically, vaccines are first tested on adults.
- Pfizer began testing on children as young as 12 in September but the results are not out.
- Is it safe for pregnant women?
- Studies have not been done in pregnant women, however experts believe vaccines are safe and that pregnant women should receive one. Consult with your doctor.
- What will the vaccine cost?
- It is free. Insurance is NOT required. Bring insurance information if you have it.
- Should I get the vaccine if I already had COVID-19?
- Yes. Experts do not know how long immunity lasts once you have been infected. If you’ve had COVID-19, wait at least 90 days before getting the vaccine.
- When will it be available?
- Oregon is only receiving a limited number of doses so it is not available for everyone yet. Stay updated on the state’s eligibility criteria and its phased vaccination approach. Learn more.
