HDC/Bienestar receives $500 grant from Bonneville Power Administration
HDC/Bienestar has received a $500 grant from Bonneville Power Administration that will enable us to kick off a new program for children in grades K-8. In partnership with Oregon Health Career Center and volunteers from Intel, the new AKA Science program will be launched in August.
The program is essentially hands-on, one hour activity-based science learning projects designed to interest elementary school-age children in science. Sarah Anderson of OHCC explains that “turning kids onto science at an early age will help to direct them toward future careers in health and engineering.” That is also the hope of Intel volunteers, led by Emilio Canas, who will deliver programs to children of residents at our properties this summer.
Training for staff and volunteers will be conducted July 15th at Montebello Community Room. Interested volunteers may sign up with Gracie Garcia, Program Services Manager at ggarcia@hdcnwo.org or 503.693.2937, Ext. 101. We are very grateful for Board member Don Ruff’s work in arranging the partnership with OHCC and helping us to get the grant from BPA.
